Coaching has long been recognised as a strategic investment in key people at key times in their careers. It is a means of enabling individuals, teams, organisations and even systems to improve their performance by supporting them to recognise and develop their own capabilities, strengths, and resources.
Coaching is intended to provide leaders with time to think; to force reflection and extract learning from their experiences, connecting this learning to previous knowledge, before mindfully deciding how to implement action.
Executive coaching is a professional relationship between a coach and an executive in which the coach provides guidance, support, and feedback to help the executive enhance their skills, reach their goals, and perform more effectively in their role. The focus of executive coaching is usually on leadership development, career growth, interpersonal relationships, and problem-solving. The coaching relationship is often confidential and customized to the specific needs and goals of the executive.

Executive coaching within your organisation
Transformational 1:1 coaching for executives, leaders and high talent professionals over contracted assignments
|
Your Coach will support your development in a number of ways. They will both support and challenge you. Their role is to encourage you and support those aspects of your leadership that are strengths and working well for you and, to help you identify where you block yourself from reaching your full potential. This will include helping to raise your awareness of and challenging unhelpful thinking and behaviour.
Your Coach will work with you as a ‘thought partner’, providing you with a protected and confidential space in which to reflect on your objectives and your challenges, to gain perspective, develop greater clarity on what you want to achieve and work through how to put your thoughts into action.
A Coach will provide you with an independent sounding board, a confidant, space to think, an opportunity to discuss challenges and be challenged – helping leaders face into the decisions they need to make.
What will coaching look and feel like?
You will have the chance to meet with two potential executive coaches, best matched to your context for 30 minutes. Once your executive coach is selected, you will set up for intake session to get to know each and contract how you will work together. Typically, your programme journey is depicted below:
We ask that you commit to the following:
- Openness to learning.
- Willingness to hear feedback.
- Punctual attendance at arranged sessions.
- Diligence in reflecting on the work you do with your Coach and in reflecting upon how you are putting your learning into practice.
- Keeping notes during coaching to assist the learning process.
The greatest development takes place within the bounds of “sensible” confidentiality. The Coach will not, without your permission, disclose to any individual in or outside the organisation any information that you disclose to them. There are these exceptions: If the Coach believes that you are putting yourself or others at risk in some way or where your actions may damage the business.
Of course, diaries shift, sometimes at short notice. If you need to postpone a session and give less than 5 days’ notice a charge or deduction from the total sessions may occur.
The Contract
- The coaching process is framed around a series of ‘conversations’ and will start with your Executive Coach supporting you to clarify your objectives, both for the programme, and what you believe to be most important to focus on as the sessions progress.
- To get the most out of the coaching it is important to take some time to reflect on what you want to achieve from this coaching programme, what you recognise you need to develop and learn, and where you most need support. The clearer you are, the greater the likelihood that your Coach will be able to support you in reaching your objectives.
- Prior to start of the coaching, it is recommended that you have a conversation with your Line Manager or a sponsor (someone with vested interest in your success) to clarify their expectations of you within your role as this may help you to further clarify areas to focus on. Your coach will help discuss there contracted involvement as part of the entry session (first contact session) and coach session 1.
- It is important to recognise that you need to be prepared to personally invest and commit to the development process if you are to gain the most from it. This includes the allocation of dedicated time in your diary for the coaching sessions.
- Many leaders can find it challenging to make this commitment, invariably due to competing priorities. However, we would invite you to take this opportunity to prioritise yourself, and your own development as a leader, in order that you can serve others even more effectively.
